Words by Lewis (Motordiction reader)

Well, I’m back with the second part of my top 10 favourite cars. I figured I’d split this into two parts as they are both pretty long articles. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the first part and hope you enjoy the second part.

Here we go.

Lancia Stratos

Italian cars have always been my favourite (if you hadn’t guessed), and the beauty and individuality of this car makes it so special, and proof that Italian make some of the best looking cars of all time. The Stratos came equipped with a 2.4-litre Ferrari Dino V6, which in a car weighing in at 880kg in rally spec, it flew across public roads and rally stages. I also love any Stratos finished in the iconic Alitalia livery, partly due to it suiting the car so well and that shade of green is incredible.

Ferrari F2004

The F2004 is the second Ferrari F1 car on this list, with it being the fourth Ferrari in my top 10. It was the first F1 car I can remember watching on TV, arguably the most dominant F1 car of all time driven by the most dominant driver of all time. It was something special to watch with Schumacher at the wheel, and was the car that got me into F1. I can remember waking up stupidly early to watch practise sessions before school on Thursdays and Fridays, and waking up early on weekends to watch it race. Thanks to the sheer amount of memories the car brings back, it is possibly my favourite car of all time.

Porsche 956

Ok, so the Porsche 956 is not a car I associate many memories with, but it is undoubtedly one of the most breathtaking cars ever made. It held the Nürburgring record for 35 years proving the engineering genius behind this car, until the record was beaten by the Porsche 919 EVO in 2018. The 956 created an unheard of amount of downforce for its period, thanks to its big wing at the back and dining table spliter up front, plus the engine produced an unholy amount of power too. The car is incredible and deserves my respect, meaning it deserves a spot in the top 10.

MG Metro 6R4

Yet another beast from the Group B era. The fact this car was based off the humble yet rubbish Austin Metro baffles me. The Metro 6R4 was one of the only Group B cars that wasn’t turbocharged unlike a lot of the competitors. Despite its appearance, it was never massively successful in its class. However, it still stands as one of my favourite looking cars from the 1980s, especially when you take the car it was based off into consideration. The engine from the Metro 6R4 also found its way into the Jaguar XJ220, but with turbochargers. Now imagine how much better the Metro 6R4 would have been with massive turbos.

Mercedes 190E

A lot of people’s favourite sports saloon from the 1980s would be the E30 M3, don’t get me wrong I love that car, but I’m terms of boxy cars from that era, I think the Mercedes 190E this looks so much better. there’s just something about it that tops other road and track cars of that era. Sure, it isn’t as desirable as the M3 or even the Sierra RS500 (which reflects on prices), but it’ll still win you cool points at your local car show. Think of the 190E as the classy alternative.

So that’s my top 10 completed. If you all like my work here, I will return with more content for you to enjoy. In the mean time, drop me a follow on my Instagram accounts, where I am active everyday. They are @leeeewi6 and @lewi6_.
